Ceded in 1950 to the city council, Parque Portugal is still one of the main green areas of Campinas, covering 648,409m², including the lagoon.
Officially inaugurated in 1972, the area popularly known as Lagoa do Taquaral actively participates in the Campineiro’s lives since then. Being one of Campina’s few central green areas, Parque Portugal has a big environmental importance, both due to its privileged location, contrasting with the surrounding urban landscape, and for its direct influence on the region’s microclimate, providing humidity in the air due to evaporation from the lagoon.
